Joba's Shoulder
Joba Chamberlain gives up three runs in the bottom of the fifth, then leaves with what appears to be a shoulder injury, as that's where he pointed while talking to the trainer on the mound.
He was almost out of the inning early when Ian Kinsler nubbed one in front of the plate. Pudge pounced, threw to second, and because Kinsler didn't run, the Yankees got an easy double play. One of the other umps, however, said it hit Kinsler in the box, foul ball. Kinsler walked, and scored on a Michael Young three-run homer. The Rangers lead 5-4.

Joba-Schmaba. The real story of this game is the walk-off GS by Marlon Byrd.
Yeah... that's the real story. The Rangers are how far out of 1st place and the WC? That's what I thought. Denton, your Rangers are less important than one individual pitcher, sorry to say.
Was a nice win though.
For this one game, Chris, you're wrong. And the Rangers have as much of a chance to win their division as the Yanks. It'll be a miracle if they even win the WC, same as the Rangers (who ARE in the WC running).
I'm not saying the Rangers are going anywhere, Chris, but the Joba-worship is just idiotic. Sore shoulder. Boo hoo. Meanwhile, the underdogs score a thrilling win that any REAL baseball fan would give props for.
Sorry, Denton, but a major injury to a young star of Joba's high profile is more newsworthy than even a fine comeback win by the Rangers.
And no, I don't own him in any fantasy leagues.
I'd say both news deserve merit, but while the Rangers game is SportCenter worthy for one night, but then the next day's a new ballgame, Joba's injury has more long term implications and thus is the bigger story of the two. And I say that as a Red Sox fan.
Did anyone notice the time stamp on the post? I'm sorry, I went to bed before the end of the game. The good folks at Verzion, who still haven't fixed my DSL, are forcing me to run all over town and get up early to find connectivity. If I had been awake, I believe I would have posted on the walk off.
Well put, Yhoque.

"And the Rangers have as much of a chance to win their division as the Yanks."
Uh. The Rangers are 11 1/2 games out; the Yankees are 5 1/2. Do you know a lot about probability, Denton?
Joba has a bad shoulder - who could have foreseen that coming?
Speaking of SportsCenter worthy... forget coverage of Joba's injury, they would much rather have 10 minute segment on mustaches. Blech.
From what I've seen of Sportscenter lately, they seem more interested in Brett Favre's breakfast menu than any lousy little baseball story.
Run diff argues that the Rangers are the longest shot of anybody in the wild card chase. The saving grace is that any pitching better than horrible means Texas could win and win and win. The problem is getting pitching which is better than horrible.
Sportscenter is awful... we need an alternative!!!!
I'm glad that the debate over Joba v the Rangers GS Walk-off got a little action going in the comments!
But once again.. a Rangers W is meaningless. They have 0% chance to leapfrog LAA, CHW, MIN, BOS, NYY, and TB. C'mon now!
And this isn't even mentioning the Tigers, who I give as much a chance as those Texas Rangers.
An injury to Joba is the equivalent to Liriano's injury, and we all remember how great Minn was doing that year! You may hate the Yankees and all the attention he gets, but you can't say that this isn't a huge deal. Shoulder injuries are much much worse than elbow, etc.
Denton, here's a hypothetical: If the SF Giants were competing for the playoffs and Lincecum came out with shoulder concerns, would anyone care that the Padres hit a GS walk off to pull within 10 in their division? No. A knowledgeable Padres fan would also be more inclined to discuss the injury at length, than their emotional, yet meaningless, win.
