Skippin' Out

Skip Caray passed away in his sleep:

"Our baseball community has lost a legend today," said Braves President John Schuerholz. "The Braves family and Braves fans everywhere will sadly miss him. Our thoughts are with his wife Paula and his children."

I always enjoyed Skip's broadcasts on TBS, and thought those productions were some of the best in baseball broadcasting. I'll miss his voice.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Well, that is just the icing on the cake to a fantastic fucking season.

My Thoughts and Prayers go out to The Caray Family, Skip Carried on his Father Harry's Ambitions Beautifully, and Hopefully Chip will be able to Carry on Skips Ambitions!

Grew up listening to him on TBS. Some great memories.

Skip was the voice of the Braves throughout their run of greatness (and before, although I wasn't really alive for most of the "before"). Losing him after Schurholtz stepping down (up?) and Smoltz likely losing his career means Cox is the only vestige of that run that started in 1991.

One thing that was nice about this year was that I got to experience Skip making miserable, meaningless Braves games fun and entertaining to listen to, as he did throughout the 80s and before. And while it was always disappointing to listen to Pete broadcasting the road games with someone else this year, it just made the home stands that much more worth looking forward to.

I got the MLB audio this year specifically because I'd usually rather listen to Skip and Pete rather than watch the game on TV listening to whatever buffoons Fox or whatever puts on. Next year, I'm not sure. Pete's fantastic, but it won't be the same.

Skip Caray entertained Braves fans and a national audience with wit and sarcasm when frankly, the Braves simply weren't very good and TBS was in its infancy. His love for the game was always apparent.

I don't get to listen to those telecasts any more as most of the games have been moved to Sport South. That's a shame and I wish I had been able to share a part of Skip's final season at the mike.
