Yankees Trade Players for Two Bucs
There's been a number of rumors about Jason Bay and Xavier Nady lately. The Nady rumors are over:
Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte from Pittsburgh for Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf, Phil Coke and George Kontos.
Peter Abraham also has a good analysis of the trade at the link. Nady is hitting well above his career norms. If he falls back to his career averages, he'll just be okay. If he keeps up the .383 OBA, he'll be great for New York.
Update, 7/26/2008, 4:25 PM EDT: The Yankees and Pirates changed the back end of the deal.

Wow. That's a completely horrible trade for the Yankees. Horrible.
I don't think it's bad. It seems pretty fair.
Ohlendorf will be useful for years, and he's cheap, so that's good for the Pirates. Frankly, all the other prospects are iffy. Tabata is the only one with real upside, but he has injury and attitude problems.
As David says, if Nady continues to perform the rest of the year as he has so far this year, it's a good deal for the Yankees. If he returns to career form and Marte doesn't contribute much, then it's not so good, and then if Tabata turns out to be a star, obviously it's a big win for the Bucs.
Nady won't continue. He's WAY above his career average. And his BAbip (batting average on balls in play) is unsustainably high. He's good vs lefties, but no better than average against righties. And Marte doesn't have a place in the bullpen, since everyone there (except Hawkins) has pitched better than he has this season (ok, maybe Farnsworth hasn't). But to send guys with that potential for a reserve OF playing over his head and a situational lefty with an ERA over 3.50 is crazy.
