The Best of the Opposition

USA Today lists the top five opponents moments at Yankees Stadium. I would put Gossage vs. Brett #1.

Gossage vs. Brett #1? C'mon, Dave, the choice is obvious, and that one isn't it.

The Brooklyn Dodgers finally, finally, finally winning a World Series--and winning it in Yankee Stadium!--that HAS to be the most unexpected thing that made the largest group of non-Yankee fans the most elated about something that happened in Yankee Stadium.

And so, we have a winner.

I will never forget Bob Welch vs Reggie Jackson in the '78 World Series. Welch, a rookie flamethrower, embarrassed Reggie in Game 2 striking him out in the 9th with 2 LOB. Yanks lose 4-3. Reggie gets his revenge in Game 6 in the 7th inning with a 2 run blast after Welch had come in for Sutton in the sixth. Reggie had a way of -admiring- his HR's, and he gave that one a long look. (Not to mention the 3 in one game in Game 6 in '77.) :-)

Ashley, I immediately thought of the Welch strikeout too, but I looked it up. It took place at Dodger Stadium.

Thanks, you are correct!!!! Great moment though.

Yeah Gossage/Brett was much bigger than the Don Larsen WS perfect game.

Bandit, you missed the point.

Larsen's perfect WS game--arguably the best moment in Yankee stadium history--clearly isn't an OPPONENT best moment, which is the topic of the article referenced, and this thread.
