Mark Ecko agreed to donate Barry Bonds's 756th home run ball to the Hall of Fame. Still no word if the asterisk was ever applied.

"The ball indeed was marked, with the five-pronged asterisk dye-cut into the cowhide, from stitch-to-stitch where “Major League Baseball” is printed."

Good news. Branded or not, this ball should be in the Hall of Fame.

I still don't get the fascination with "the ball." Whether it's Bond's home run or Minky and the sox WS ball or some other token from a game. With 70+ balls used during a game, I just can't get excited about the one particular one that happened to be hit or caught, etc.
