Sundays Gloomdays

The Orioles are trying to break their Sunday losing streak with a promotion:

I don't know if it will work, but the team is instituting a "We win, you win" promotion. If the Orioles win this coming Sunday against Texas, fans will be offered limited free tickets to a future game.

If nothing else, it should put a few more fannies in the seats.

The oddity of Sunday losses aside, the Orioles have regained a lot of their fan support this year. I went to Camden Yards last night in a game against the Royals, and saw the longest walk-up line for tickets in many a moon. And when the Red Sox and Yanks play there, the crowd is far more even in partisanship than just last summer. With some tinkering, they're not out of the wild card hunt.

Went to a Thursday evening game a few weeks ago against the Astros and had to wait in line for 30 minutes to buy tickets. Easily the best walk-up I'd seen at Camden Yards. The real test for the O's will be whether they can continue to draw into August if the team drops well below .500.

First place prize with this promotion: One free ticket to a future Orioles game

Second place prize: TWO free tickets to a future Orioles game...

Seriously, it would be nice to see the O's get a little more fan support... I went to a Sunday O's-Red Sox game at Camden Yards last September, and the place was at least 85% Red Sox fans. Apparently it's cheaper to fly to Baltimore and spend the weekend than it is to get into Fenway Park.

Dang, Brian beat me to it.
