Jones Still Hurting

It looks like Chipper Jones is not healing as quickly as expected, and he's likely going to go on the disabled list. With the expectation that the time off heals the injury, this makes it a bit more likely that Chipper will hit .400, since he'll have a smaller number of at bats this season.

At some point, missing enough time will keep Chipper from reaching the minimum number of plate appearances to qualify for the batting title. Does the model take this into account? How much time would he have to miss to fall behind the pace for qualifying for the batting title?

Actually, if Chipper hits .400, he probably qualifies for the batting title under the "his average is so high, even if he took an 0 for to get to 502 PA, he still wins. The year George Brett came close to .400, he played in 117 games. That's at the low end of playing time needed to qualify. He came in at 514 PA that season.

Isn't it 3.1 PA per game played by your team to qualify?

I found this:

According to MLB rules, a player has to have 3.1 plate appearances for each game his team played to qualify. Cano has 406 PAs by my count. He would need to get to 502 by the end of the season.

So 502 PAs needed for Chipper. Right now he has about 300.

It's 3.1 per scheduled game. So even if your team plays 161 or 163 games, you still have to get to 502. The only time that might be different is in strike shortened years.
