Evan Longoria picked up four hits in five at bats tonight to lead the Rays to a 10-5 victory over the Pirates. He drove in three runs and scored three with two singles, a double and a home run. In his last five games, Evan is 12 for 23 with five doubles, four home runs and 11 RBI. He's making that long term contract look like a very good deal.

"very good deal" is an understatement. Looking over the numbers, it appears that Longoria has already been worth over 2.5 wins above replacement. The cost of a free agent win was about $4.4M this offseason. In other words, the market value of Longoria's production thus far is already $11M! Of course, Longoria himself would have gotten the minimum, but if this is even remotely close to his true talent level this was an absurdly good deal.

Thanks for posting the photos, David. I was having trouble telling them apart. Now I know that Eva is number 9.
