3 AM Calls

Jeff Carroll sends this link to Jon Stewart on Willie Randolph's firing. I liked Stewart's line about what a 3 AM call usually represents.

David, remember the line about that Titanic movie? "The boat sank, get over it."

A so-so (at best) manager got fired. Get over it.

What's that supposed to mean; get over it? He posts a humorous video and you tell him to get over it? Get over what exactly?

Get over the obsession with Randolph. David has now posted nine times on the firing since it occurred. And that doesn't count the posts on Jery Manuel's early managerial problems, which are arguably related.

Would, say, the firing of the Kansas City Royals manager get nine posts on this blog? That firing might be lucky to get two. Folks, it's time to move on.

Any manager that was fired in that classless of a manner would get a lot of attention.

The Royals manager could get fired as "classlessly" as anybody could imagine - he might be given a lethal injection, for crying out loud - and the media reaction, including this blog, would be virtually undetectable.

A very average manager of a very average team got fired. Just because it's New York doesn't mean we have to agonize over it endlessly. It's finished.

Yeah, how dare David write about what he wants on his blog.

Casey, you make a good point. But it is too narrow. Even more than writing a few times about Randolph's firing, he obsessively and repeatedly posts about baseball. Baseball, and occasionally related matters. It is time to move on, and there is so much to move on to. The border war between Ethiopia and Eritrea has simmered, heated up, boiled over into a hot war, cooled back down and shown signs of heating up again in the years Pinto has been blogging, with nary a word from Pinto. For instance.

I'm going to adopt an Easteropian child and name him Starvin' Marvin.

Actually, the media obsessively and repeatedly talks about baseball as if it's confined to New York and Boston, with an occasion detour to Wrigley Field. So maybe I should get with the plan. I now realize that Randolph's firing is at least the biggest thing to have happened in the history of the known universe.
