John Buzhardt Passes

John Buzhardt, former major league pitchers, died Sunday. Bob Spear remembers:

John Buzhardt and I met at the Mid-Carolina Country Club grill room to talk about his professional baseball career, and seldom has an interview been so entertaining.

He pitched well for the White Sox, not so well for his other teams. He's the type of pitcher who would have won a good number of games for a team that could hit, but he never really played for one of those. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

As a young boy living in West Chester Pa.I saw John pitch severals times in 1961 at Connie Mack Stadium for the Phils.Years later I moved to South Carolina and had the good fortune to speek to him on several occassions.I last spoke to him when I called him to inform him of the passing of Johnny Callison who at one time while with the Phillies was Johns roomate.John Buzhardt was a true gentlemen and hero from my childhood who I will always remember.RIP John...Ken Parlier

Shortly after he joined the White Sox, John Buzhardt happened to make a dental appointment with my father, whose dental practice was located just west of Chicago. Having remembered that my father told him that Luis Aparicio was my favorite player, Buzhardt arrived at his follow-up appointment with a gift for me: one of Luis' (cracked) bats. At the time, when I was 14, I thought that was about the nicest gift I ever got; now, at 59, I feel the same way.

Holy crap! I just got some cards signed by him thru the mail...arriving back to me on the 16th!!!

RIP John...your 1959 Rookie card was one of the very first cards I got as a kid in the 60's. And I still have it.
