From Day-to-Day to Tenuous

The Willie Randolph death watch continues. SI downgrades his status from day-to-day to tenuous.

A Mets official indicated that nothing was expected to be decided today regarding Randolph's status. But that doesn't preclude something from happening later this weekend. Front-office sources indicate his hold on the job is shaky, at best.

Should Randolph be fired, bench coach Jerry Manuel will take over, sources told SI.com.

So the Mets will likely win four or five in a row, saving Randoph's job for another couple of weeks until they lose four or five in a row. New York is winning just often enough to keep Willie's heart beating.

Like its his fault they are playing like crap or Pedro gets hurt, Alou gets hurt, Delgado gets old, Wright and Reyes are not hitting, Heilman pitches like crap, Perez pitches like crap, Wagner blows 3 saves in a week or so.

I don't think that Randolph was ever ready to be a MLB manager. But, he's "okay." What I don't understand is why in the hell Minaya's not being crushed for the players that Randolph has to field: Delgado over a cheaper Jacobs/pick-em platoon; a fragile Pedro; Beltran was a good move, but he clearly went to NYC for the money and Wilpon has it; giving Heath Bell a few innings here and there, moving him up and down, and then dumping him to San Diego; Letting go of decent or potentially decent younger players for not much (e.g. Kepinger [sp?]); signing Moises Alou; we'll see on Santana, but again, is Santana really a potential plus for Minaya or another example of Wilpon's money?

To me, Minaya's always Bartolo Colon (to "win now") for Grady Sizemore, Cliff Lee, and...wasn't it Brandon Phillips (?).
