The Good, the Bad, and the Uggla

Jorge Cantu and Andrew Miller gave the Marlins a 2-1 lead after seven innings. Cantu took Cole Hamels deep twice, two of the three hits allowed by Cole tonight. Miller held the Phillies to just one run while striking out seven. Together, the two starters struck out 20.

Kevin Gregg, however, pitched a poor ninth, although Hanley Ramriez's failure to turn a double play could have saved the closer from a blown save. The force out allowed a run to score and tie the game.

That brought in Tom Gordon who loaded the bases to face Dan Uggla, who homered to make the final 6-2. That's 19 for Uggla, and all six runs were delivered by the long ball. Even more amazing to me than the Marlins being in contention is the fact that they are leading the majors in home runs.
