Another Friendly Fracas

Matt Garza and Dioner Navarro exchanged words and pushes:

In the fourth, after No. 9 hitter Duran hit a two-run homer for a 3-0 lead, Garza and Navarro had heated words when pitching coach Jim Hickey visited the mound. Hickey even appeared to shove Navarro.

When Garza and Navarro got in the dugout after the inning, television cameras caught them face-to-face in an apparent scuffle that spilled into the tunnel leading to the clubhouse. Manager Joe Maddon, Hickey and others could be seen rushing to break up the fracas. It wasn't clear if any punches were thrown.

I believe Garza shook off Navarro before the home run.

I'm tellin' ya... there's no place in team sports for getting physical like this with teammates. Why is this ok with the players lately???

Garza wanted to give him the heat and announce his presence with authority.

The Rays obviously have anger issues.

No place in team sports? Ah, but this stuff is as old as the games themselves. What's a football training camp without a few scuffles between guys -- just to give one example.

Professional athletes are amped up individuals or else they wouldn't have made it. As long as it doesn't linger or start a clubhouse rift (with players choosing sides) this is probably a non starter.
