Annoying Youkilis
It turns out the tussle between Manny Ramirez and Kevin Youkilis was caused by Kevin doing too much complaining:
Multiple Red Sox players confirmed yesterday that Thursday night's dugout altercation between Manny Ramírez and Kevin Youkilis resulted from Ramírez objecting to what he believed was excessive - and chronic - complaining about the strike zone by Youkilis in the dugout, as well as the first baseman's penchant for throwing equipment after at-bats.
Both Ramírez and Youkilis downplayed the incident yesterday.
"That was a misunderstanding," Ramírez said. "Even in the best family, you fight and stuff like that. But it's done, it's over with. We've got everything straightened out."
"The whole thing was basically a misunderstanding of words and stuff like that," Youkilis said. "To me, it's no big deal."
I think Francona was right when he said there was too much testosterone that night. I thought that stuff was banned, anyway. :-)
If that's what it is then good for Manny - Youk is a big f'ng crybaby.
Youk makes me crazy with the complaining 330 miles away. I can't imagine what it's like in the dugout. Riding the ump and whining hurts all the hitters and Manny did the right thing reminding Youk of that fact.
Manny as a voice of reason on how to act during a baseball game? If true, Youkilis should be shamed into acting correctly.
I followed Youk since his intro in '04 to the daily roster. I initially liked his disguest at the end of a bat at-bat. It looked like he had a good fire. The problem is the fire is now a four-alarm. He's not attempting to contain it any longer. He'll learn. Or he'll start to act out in other ways and draw suspensions and more bench time. Good on, Manny for swiping at him.
This time with competent editing. ::rollseyes::

I never would have guessed that. I always kind of liked Youkalis, but now I'm hearing that he's one of the most disliked players in the game (disliked by other players, that is).
I wonder where the line gets drawn...
O'neill was praised for his fire... Youk is chastised?
Have we really entered an era where hitting your teammate in the dugout during a game doesn't even call for fines? I remember the Cubs last year or a couple years back, fighting in the dugout. There were fines and everybody wasn't ok with it. This sours me on baseball and I've loved it even through the strike. If I were commish, I'd put a stop to it right now. If I were team president, I'd put a stop to it - right now. Really big fines for physical fights with a teammate. The Red Sox have an anger problem the past couple games. I don't like this. It seriously bugs me that they think boxing a TEAMMATE is anywhere near excusable.
What exactly would you do, Dev? Mandatory group hugs? These are grown men forced to live in close quarters with each other for extended amounts of time. They're not doing it because they like each other - they're doing it because they're getting paid to. There will ALWAYS be times where, even in the best conditions, people are going to not get along. As long as it's not affecting their on-field play, they could hold a nightly fight club for all I care.
As to you getting turned off baseball because of this downright insignificant occurrence - it probably just means you never _really_ liked baseball in the first place and were just looking for an excuse to quit. I guess there's always football - no wait, too violent. Soccer -no, still too intense. Summer Olympics maybe?
