Nats Naughts
Chico Harlan looks at the recent poor performance of the Washington Nationals offense. Of course, the problem is bigger than two shutouts in a row. The Nationals have the lowest OPS in the National League. Imagine a team made up of hitters like Casey Blake and Gary Matthews, Jr., and you have the Nats.

I think a long-time problem with the Nats is the lack of a big bat to be "the guy" in their lineup. They have hitters that are decent complementary parts of a lineup, but guys like Austin Kearns and even Ryan Zimmerman can't carry a team. Without a big bat guys like Kearns and Zimmerman try to do too much and their performance suffers. One really good hitter could solidify that lineup by getting a lot of the other guys to relax and just do the things they do best.
I think they had Wily Mo in LF, Milledge in CF and Dukes in RF yesterday. Before someone says something about untapped talent and raw skills none of them were hitting over 250 and and only 1 of them had hit a HR all season. This is KC A's, Senators, 60's Astros material
