Pounding the Pen
The Oakland Athletics were in danger of losing second place in the AL West. The blew a 4-2 lead, allowing the Rangers to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Rangers bullpen relieved Feldman to start the seventh, and the A's had the opening they needed. The first eight Athletics reached base in the inning, the last on a home run by Jack Cust. One out later, Ellis added a solo shot, and the A's score nine runs in the inning to take a 13-7 lead. That score is holding up in the bottom of the eighth.
