Surprising White Sox
My latest column at SportingNews.com looks at why the White Sox turned out to be such a surprise.
Now I see why you were thinking yesterday (or maybe the day before that) about HR's allowed per 200 IP. Anyway, about the ChiSox...I keep expecting them to slip back down to reality but this article is making me think they're for real contenders. Imagine if they win the WS again this year? That would pretty much make this "The Decade of The Sox" and would be very reminiscent of the late deadball era...when both those teams were powerhouses.
i know this sounds silly, but it wasn't too hard to see that both the white sox and the cardinals had potential to be good (not great, but good). the sox added some obp, but more importantly the pitching staff had potential to exceed pecota (and other) predictions. same holds true with st louis, with one or two surprise bats aiding an over-performing pitching staff. to rip off bill clinton, it's the pitching, stupid.
