Jeterating Eckstein

Richard Griffin makes David Eckstein's return to the lineup seems like a good thing. Griffen refers to Eck as "gritty" and a "sparkplug." Of course, he misses the significance of this:

The Jays were a remarkable 12-7 with Eckstein out of action. The majority of shortstop play was handled by Marco Scutaro. The former A's bench player, making his first appearance back at McAfee Coliseum since being dealt to the Jays, entered last night batting .323 with nine RBIs in 19 games as a shortstop.

"I did this for the last four years in Oakland," Scutaro said of his standout stand-in job for Eckstein. "I pretty much know my role. I'm just ready for any situation. It's always nice when the staff, the manager has confidence in you to play every day when somebody gets hurt. It's always a nice feeling when you know they feel that way."

Griffin fails to mention the Blue Jays are 13-18 when Eckstein plays. You night think the Jays would use David as the backup from this point on.

Definition of Jeterate here.

It just seems obvious who the better fit for that team is, but the Jays are probably playing the higher salary guy...as most teams would. I hate when they do that.

Hey, what great adjectives to describe Eckstein: sparkplug and especially "gritty". I can't imagine why no one has ever used those to describe him.

/sarcasm.

I wonder if the guys at Fire Joe Morgan have seen this? And thanks for that definition of Jeterate.

David Eckstein - 2 World Series Rings and 1 World Series MVP. Some people just find a way win. There's an adjective, winner.
