A First for Hamels
Cole Hamels shuts out the Braves on four hits earning the first shutout of his career. He's collected four short shutouts prior to this and two complete games, but tonight he combined them. Chipper Jones was out with a groin injury, which probably helped a bit.

It was no contest in this game of opposing lefthanders.
Cole Hamels was simply brilliant. After the Braves #2 hitter singled in the first, Hamels retired the next 15 hitters he faced. The next guy to reach on Hamels was Gregor Blanco who singled to centerfield in the sixth inning.
James only lasted four, being pounded for 3 Phillie homers.
I hope Brett Myers was watching.
Watching the way the Phils are handling him, I think Hamels wants to become a Roy Halladay sort of pitcher--lots of endurance, and the ability/strength to go deep into every start.
I think it's kind've interesting. One can argue that they're risking Hamels arm by letting him throw upwards of 120 pitches, but they're doing it mostly gradually, and I'm interested to see if they can just increase his endurance.
