Too Patient

Ben Sheets falls apart in the seventh inning, allowing six runs. I find that amazing. Yes, he had pitched very well up to that point, but where were the relief pitchers? He gave up two homers, a triple and two singles, but was still allowed to pitch to Gary Bennett, who hit a three-run homer. It wasn't that long ago that Sheets was hurt. Wouldn't most managers have gotten him out of there after the two homers and the triple? If someone saw the game, was the bullpen simply not ready and the hits came very quickly?

Update: I just looked at the pitch by pitch on MLB.com. The second homer and triple came on consecutive pitches, but there was time to get someone ready. Sheets made a couple of pickoff throws with a man on first, and he could have thrown there all day until the reliever was ready.

It happened really, really quickly. Less than 5 minutes from scoreless to 6-0. Torre was probably just picking up the phone to the bullpen when the triple came.

and btw.. the triple should have been a single + error - braun on his beautiful outfield defense... he needs to get to the AL to be a DH eventually

Maybe that was the problem. The Brewers were waiting for Torre to pull Sheets out.
