Cubs Fans Heads Explode

Jim Edmonds signed with the Cubs Wednesday:

"Hopefully Jimmy still has something left and it was just a bad start," general manager Jim Hendry said.

Sure, three straight years of declining numbers are meaningless. Felix Pie joins the list of Cubs centerfield prospects that can't hit and get sent back to the minors.

"The game is full of history of people that a lot of people were willing to write off and they had a change of scenery and did well again," Hendry said

why can't a reporter ask him: "Jim, can you give me an example of a 38 year old centerfielder that changed scenery and did well again?"

or

"Jim, isn't the game full of MORE history of 23 year olds struggling out of the gate and then improving after getting some experience?"

It's a cheap signing because the Padres are on the hook for almost all the money. And what do the Cubs have to lose? None of the stiffs they've tried in center have hit a lick.

What's with the comment that Reed Johnson has "performed well"? He's got a .673 OPS this season. Might as well try another stiff in center to see if he can come to life for a couple months.

If Edmonds can merely duplicate his .728 OPS from last season, it would be a significant upgrade on the .644 the Cubs have gotten from their center fielders this year.

Too bad the hit in defense and baserunning makes that a wash.

And it depends on where he hits. If they are gonna throw Edmonds 5th instead of just putting him 8th where the other CF'ers have hit, it makes the team worse.

Edmonds must have really slipped if it's a drop in D. And how much is baserunning worth if you can't get on?

Jimmy got a nice standing O from most of the crowd when he came to the plate. Yes, there were a few scattered boo's but not many. He'll probably do fine for the price and Felix can play everyday, as he needs to in AAA. With his personal hitting coach standing by helping. The same coach who has Cedeno hitting .300---that didn't happen in the majors either, he was finally sent down to AAA last year, and look at him now.

Felix getting boo's for striking out all the time, does nothing for him. So for those of you who think you know how to manage the Cubs better, I suggest you put in your application. Nuff said..:)
