Lancing the Nats

Lance Berkman is certainly making a bid to be included in this year's MVP voting. He unleashed five hits tonight, including two doubles. That set up Lee and Pence to drive him in four times as the Astros overcame three Washington home runs to win the game 6-5. Lee doubled in Tejada and Berkman after both singled with two out in the eighth to ice the victory. The Astros win their fifth game in six tries, scoring at least six runs in all six games.

Berkman's career line of .301/.412/.563 makes him the greatest hitter nobody's ever heard of. Okay, hardcore seamheads know about him, but the casual sports fan probably has no clue.

Berkman is having a fine season so far. What's most impressive/unexpected is his six, count 'em, six stolen bases. At what point do people start talking about this? It seems like Berkman has a stolen base goal in mind. Whether he does or not, eclipsing his previous career high of nine stolen bases seems well within range.
