Last At Bat Series
The Giants and Phillies certainly gave the fans at Some Bank Ballpark (yes, I know it's Citizens) their money's worth. The first two games went extra innings, and today's game was won in the bottom of the ninth. Yabu walked Howard and Burrell with two out in the bottom of the ninth to set up the winning run on a Velez error off the bat of Jenkins. The Giants defense cost them dearly as five of the runs allowed today were unearned. So despite allowing four runs, Tim Lincecum's ERA went down, as none were earned. At 8-7 in one run games, almost half of the Giants games have been decided by that slim margin.

Just a thought on the Some Bank Ballpark. Philadelphia's got about 1.5 million people. Citizen's Bank paid 57.5 million over 25 years for the naming rights. As a Philadelphia Citizen, I would happily pay an extra $1.53 in taxes, each year, to have the stadium named without a corporate sponsorship. Phillies Park, Carlton Grounds, Ashburn Field, John Kruk's Mullet Stadium, whatever. It's just hard to look back with fondness of my days spent at The Bank, while my dad remembers Connie Mack.
Your "Some Bank" quip got me thinking as well... Is there any rule that the media has to use the correct name of a park? What if Wrigley Field were to be changed? Could a sports writer lead a campaign to ignore this new name by just continuing to call it Wrigley? I know there is some freedom of speech left in this world, and that sports writers use pet names for fields all the time, but could you get away with consistently calling a stadium by something other than its "official" name?

The Phillies won the final with the Giants 6-5, winning the type of game that the good clubs, pennant-type clubs win consistently.
