The Error of their Ways
The Oakland Atheltics committed four errors in the field last night against the usually error prone Texas Rangers. Josh Hamilton, however, made a great play to save the game for Texas:
The A's were down 4-3 with Daric Barton at first and one out in the seventh. Jack Cust, who had homered in the fourth, unloaded on an Eddie Guardado pitch. Off the crack of the bat, it appeared Cust might have homered again and at least would have a double.
Hamilton, though, raced a long way, somehow tracked down the ball and made a backhanded catch just before he crashed into the wall. Barton understandably had thought the ball wasn't going to be caught, and so once Hamilton made the grab, it easily became an 8-4-3, inning-ending double play.
For all their poor play this season, the Rangers are just 5 1/2 games back after winning three in a row.
