Do Over
There was a strange ending to the Red Sox game last night:
With Brandon Moss (walk) on first with two outs, Ryan got Coco Crisp to fly to right fielder Alex Rios. But Ryan, who doesn't come to a complete stop with the bases empty, hadn't paused before his delivery, prompting the balk call.
Gibbons didn't agree.
"It's a crap call," Gibbons said. "Come on. The game's over. Everybody's shaking hands."
Indeed, the ball had settled in Rios's glove, the Fenway fans were headed for the gates, and the Blue Jays were congratulating themselves for ending a disastrous nine-game, seven-loss road swing with a victory.
Instead, they had to do it all over again, this time with Moss on second.
Ryan got the out, but if the Red Sox had rallied, that game would go down in history with the Bartman ball and the Brett Pine Tar incident.

Or this past season's Ravens/Browns game.
I was there with my 4th grade Ravens fan son, and watched as the final score eventually got changed and the game slipped away. It's an extremely disillusioning circumstance.
Gibbons is an idiot - the ump called the balk - play stops - what is he complaining about - 1993 Red Sox lost to NYY when a fan ran on the field and time was called while Greg Harris was in the windup - guy flew out to LF for what would have been the last out. Had them replay and NYY scored like 4 runs and won.
And of course, we assume that the sox could actually hit..
Soccer dad: Did the fact that the final call was the the right call make it disillusioning?
Actually, taking the word "disillusion" literally, it really was undoing an illusion.
