Rocket's Reputation

Roger Clemens filed a defamation suit against Brian McNamee, and now the Rocket's reputation is under attack. Via The Big Lead, this article in New York Daily News:

Roger Clemens carried on a decade-long affair with country star Mindy McCready, a romance that began when McCready was a 15-year-old aspiring singer performing in a karaoke bar and Clemens was a 28-year-old Red Sox ace and married father of two, several sources have told the Daily News.

The revelations could torpedo claims of an unsullied character that are central to the defamation suit Clemens filed Jan. 6 against his former personal trainer Brian McNamee. Vivid details of the affair could surface in several media projects that McCready is involved with - including a documentary that begins filming today in Nashville, a new album and a reality show.

Canseco's claim that Roger was the only player who didn't cheat on his wife seemed far fetched to me. I had heard rumors about Clemens carrying on with women during my days at ESPN. This just goes to show that not talking about the charges would have been Rogers best defense.

Please - if this is what the I-team is doing now! It's as bad as the E60 Tejeda interview. At least it makes bloggers look good in comparison

Three questions:

Who is paying McNamee's legal bills?
When was the last time Canseco used steroids?
Why do you need to protect a source who wants to dish dirt on a marriage? It isn't a state secret!

Dave:

Consdiering the reputation of ESPN's on camera staff, can they dare pick up this story and talk with a straight about someone being unfaithful to their spouses?

What's the statute of limitations on rape of a minor? Isn't THAT the real issue here? Who cares if he cheated on his wife other than his wife?

JC, it would vary by state, but there are claims he took her on "romantic" trips. Assuming state lines were crossed that might be another area for the Feds to poke around. He is in deep, shutting his mouth has been the best course since day 1, still is.

Unanmed sources claiming unsubstantiated rumors that will not be allowed into the courtroom....This has no bearing on Clemens' suit, as his suit relates to his baseball reputation, not his morals or general lack thereof. Unless Clemens was getting injected with steroids while floating in the Florida pool with McNamee?

McNamee was suspected of raping a woman he had met at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort in October 2001. McNamee was having sex with the woman in the resort's pool and didn't stop when confronted by security, the documents say. Police were notified. When they arrived, they found McNamee had helped the woman out of the pool and get dressed, according to the documents. Groggy and incoherent, she was taken to the hospital, where the documents said she was found to have GHB, the "date-rape drug," in her system. Detectives later recovered ...a water bottle containing GHB at the side of the pool.

Will Marv Albert cover the trial?
