Palmer Positive

Jim Palmer is very positive on the Yankees young pitchers:

"I like both of their arms," Palmer said. "I know people in New York are upset because they haven't pitched well so far. But you can't have it all. You can't be young and experienced. It's 162 games. You have to give these guys a chance to mature as pitchers and as people."

Palmer notes it took him a while to develop in the majors as well.

The thing with the NYY is they are trying to win now and break these guys in at the same time. Palmer only made 6 starts his rookie season and made 21 relief appearances. The next year they won the WS. To me Hughes looks like he'd really benefit from either going down and getting his innings in or working in relief for now. The NYY are counting on him, Joba and Kennedy to perform now and seem to have no backup plans. Hank can make all the dumbass statements hhe wants but he's still got a $200M+ payroll and somehow has 4-5 rookies in his pitching staff with another couple of has beens, never weres and never will be's.
