Sabathia Hammered Again

C.C. Sabathia pitched poorly again tonight. He goes four-plus innings allowing nine runs. His control continues to be poor, as he walked five more tonight, bringing his total to 14 for the season in 18 innings. It's time for the Indians to take a look at Sabathia's physical condition. If his work load from 2007 had a negative effect, it's time to find out what's injured.

The Tigers offensive surge continue as they lead 11-1 in the seventh inning.

as an indians fan, it does not get worse than this.

This is just embarrassing. David, maybe you also want to mention the Indians getting shut down by Galarraga as well.

They're playing like the Nationals.

On Extra Innings the Cleveland broadcasters were interviewing Bob Feller during the game. With Sabathia's dump on the field, what else were they supposed to do?

One of the broadcasters - Rick Manning, I think - brought up Sabathia's work load from last season and how it might be affecting his performance. Manning, as you might expect, immediately laughed about Feller's workloads in his career...many seasons of 250+ innings. Feller then launched into the usual old-timer's tirade about how pitchers nowadays don't work enough.

Before the Rob Neyers of the world wax indignant, Feller may have a point about Sabathia's conditioning. I'm hardly the one to say this, but CC lugs around a lot of extra pounds that Feller never had to worry about. A little extra long-tossing - hey, a little extra physical activity of any kind - might have been a good idea for Sabathia as he developed.

To give Feller credit, he also commented about the lousy start to his own 1948 season. So maybe CC will come around.
