Great Question
Eric Seidman poses a very interesting question:
I want to combine this thought with something I heard last year on the radio and bring forth a question. Quite simply, would you rather be a fan of a team like the Marlins or the Giants? Not necessarily the specific teams or how they look in 2007 and 2008, but would you rather be a fan of a perennial contender for eight years or a team that would win two world series in that span and be below average the other six years?

I think I'd rather be a fan of a team that contends and wins the World Series fairly often.

I would rather be a fan of a team who gives 100 % every game whether they win or not. Just as long as the fans are knowledgable. I HATE going to games and sitting with people who claim to know the game and know absolutly nothing.

No duh. What a stupidly obvious thing to say.
I'm a Rangers fan. Enough said.
Between those choices, I'd hesitate and say the Giants. But I'm a Royals fan, and only now coming to understand what it's like to have a GM that knows what he's doing and makes good/hard decisions in the best interest of the team, its fans and its city. Neither the Giants nor the Marlins currently enjoy that luxury - despite past success.
My choice of the Giants in that situation is more a dislike of the Marlins' business model, and the contempt the front office seemingly has for its fans/city. The Giants' front office may not be particularly savvy, but they at least think they're contributing towards their storied history/legacy.
