Mental Mistakes

Richard Durrett lists the mental mistakes the Rangers made yesterday, and over the last few games. This is the type of play that reflects directly on the manager. Players go into slumps, players make a mistake from time-to-time, but when it all comes together like that it really looks like Washington doesn't have the team properly prepared.

Washington's not going to Cooperstown as a manager or anything else. But Daniels has been giving away talent for no return ever since he somehow landed the GM job. So what's left on the team ain't much to work with.

Wow, just about the only deal that Daniels completely gave up talent for nothing in return was the Chris Young deal. Just about every other deal has scored very significant returns for the Rangers... Casey which deals do you consider to have returned nothing?

We gave away Soriano for that steaming pile of crap Brad Wilkerson, and so far the trade of Danks for McCarthy isn't looking too good.

Painting the Soriano deal that way is nothing but hindsight. That deal was widely praised at the time.

I think managers get both too much credit and too much blame for stuff like this, but something is wrong here.

What does Ron Washingtons ability to motivate or manage the game, day to day, have to do with Jon Daniels?

He might have been a good coach but is way over his head as manager.

Um, just what return did Daniels get for Teixeira? I know, they're supposed to be good prospects. Maybe they'll pan out and maybe not. Early indications on Saltalamacchia are not encouraging.

Meanwhile, the GM loads up the team with greats like Broussard and Byrd, and then Washington gets ripped for not winning?

Washington is pretty much a cipher, of course. But the talent level on the Rangers is 75-80 wins at the most, especially with by far their best player (the aforementioned Teixeira) gone.

Ron Washington is not a manager and never will be. He was a garage league choice from the beginning. He is doing nothing more than delaying the inevitable -- which is his termination. This will be his first and last managerial job post.
