Manny Mashes
The Indians took a 4-3 lead into the top of the ninth and brought in Joe Borowski to try for the save. The Red Sox used a double and small ball to tie the game as they sacrificed Lugo to third and brought him home with a sacrifice fly. That brought up Ortiz. He picked up one hit on the night, and with a chance to put the Red Sox ahead he singled again. Manny then hits the first pitch out of the park, and Boston wins the game 6-4. It was Manny's first home run with men on base this year.
Is Borowski long for the closer role? He blown two saves in four opportunities, and he's pitched poorly doing so. His ERA is now 18.00. He's allowed seven hits and three homers in four innings, and five of the hits went for extra bases. Luckily for the Indians, they have a number of good candidates if they decide to go in another direction in the near future.

One of the truly nice guys in baseball, Mike Timlin, improved vastly in relief in this game compared to his first 2 outings. When Timlin goes South, he is the first to admit to it, no excuses. He'll tell you that his wife is the best athlete in the family.
I was at the game tonight and Borowski topped out at 83 MPH on the stadium radar gun, throwing consistently between 81-82 MPH with his fastball.
So to answer your question, I would say no, Borowski is not long for the closer role.
joe blow was washed up when the cubs let him go
Kind of incredible they didn't replace him before the season started
