Online Compromise

Peter Abraham reports that MLB and newspapers reached an agreement on online content:

There will be no limit on photographs or on the audio of press conferences (such as the manager's pre-game or post-game sessions). That is good news for those of you who enjoy the clips that we post here.

Other interviews will be limited to two minutes, which isn't a major problem. We will have to take the audio off our sites within 72 hours, which doesn't strike me as an issue for too many readers.

With permission from an individual team, longer audio interviews (such as our reader Q&A sessions) would be allowed.

Since most bloggers don't have credentials, I don't think there's much MLB can do about what we post at the moment.

I'm able to download the full gameday results after the game off the mlb website. Why can't I download clips, replays or other digital media content after the game?

Before computers and the internet, the most information someone who didn't see the game would be able to get would be a box score and the AP or Sporting News article. With what are basically grassroots magazines (blogs) you can not only get the results, but you can participate in the discussion and (hopefully) the celebration. MLB should feed this fire and release the digital content from the game a few hours after. Yesterday, gameday asked me if I would like to see the Frank Thomas HR... what if I wanted to see each of Aaron Hill's at bats during his 4-4 night?
