The Line on Lincecum

So far, Tim Lincecum is showing no negative signs from the rain delay. He's struck out four through the first two innings, allowing two hits, a walk and no runs. Tim is also hitting the high 90s on the gun.

Tim is special. Despite having one of the best curves in the game and having added a mean slider over the winter, he is going primarily with fastball and change ups, a la the vintage Jason Schmidt.

Tim did throw a VERY mean breaking pitch to garner one strikeout last night. The pitch seemed to break too much for a slider -- but at 88 mph seemed to fast to be a curve ball. (Tim's curve usually comes in 10 to 12 mph lower than 88.)

Tim's most effective pitch since about two months into his major league career has been the change up (actually an abbreviated forkball) that he developed two winters ago. If his new slider is anywhere near as effective and with one of the best curves and fastballs in the game, how is anyone going to hit Tim?

If he gets his control down, he will be VERY hard to hit (not that he isn't already). If he also gets his command down, we may have to issue the batters rackets instead of bats.
