Whack an Utley

Mets pitchers just hit Chase Utley for the third time today. Since he became a regular in 2005, only Aaron Rowand has been hit more. That loaded the bases. Howard ground to first, and he hits Utley in the back as he goes for the double play. Two runs score on the error and the Phillies and Mets are tied at two in the top of the seventh.

Update: Werth singles in Utley to give the Phillies the lead 3-2.

What is it that makes pitchers throw at Phillies? They both spent most of the period under consideration at Philadelphia.

Some of us can remember--back when Jamie Moyer was pitching against the Phillies--the Phillies's teams that would strike out more than 1,000 times in a season. (Moyer threw one of the worst 8.1 no-hit innings [at the Vet] that I've ever seen, and that include Andy Hawkins's eight-inning lost 4-0 no-hitter that Buddy Boy scrubbed from the list. Walked about ten, and should have walked about five others if the team's hitting coach had be alive.)
