Things I'd Like to See
With Derek Jeter out:
Manager Joe Girardi wasn't ruling out moving Alex Rodriguez back to his old home at short if Jeter is out for a while, saying, "It's something we'll talk about internally." But Jeter said he was told it wasn't that bad, that his MRI showed just a mild strain.

If Arod hits one homer while playing SS I think it gives him the all time record for homers by a SS.
Wonder if A-Rod still has the range to cover short...but then again couldn't be any worse than Jeter I suppose.

Heck of a time to start worrying about that, given who the incumbent at the position for the past twelve years has been.
Wow. Let's not do something because it might cause a debate! A-Rod and Jeter might not like each other any more!
Who cares. The point of a baseball team is winning. Those two liking or not liking each other has nothing to do with the Yankees winning.
If Girardi makes this move (unlikely unless Jeter is out for at least ten days or so), AND if A-Rod plays a great SS, would he (Girardi) have the guts to keep A-Rod at SS when Jeter is healthy again?
It's only a debate because idiots make it one.
In 1974, Bill Virdon opened up a can of worms. He moved the "heir apparent" to CF, Bobby Murcer to RF because (being a former CF himself) Virdon recognized that Elliott Maddox was the better defensive CF. The outcry that year was something. The move almost paid off. The Yanks missed winning the division by two games.
Unfortunately for Maddox, a knee injury in 1975 basically ruined his career.
It should be added that in 1964, the Yanks took off because Mantle was moved to RF at the end of the year (to save his legs) and Maris moved to CF. Check the boxscores and the 1964 WS if you don't believe me.
Debate be damned. People making mountains out of molehills.
It's not so much A-Rod being a better shortstop than Derek (clearly he is/was), but what do you do with Jeter when he comes back -- A-Rod had a bit of a learning curve for 3b and that's with a spring training. Sticking Derek there wouldn't be good.
After watching E-Rod play 3B the last 3 years what would possibly make you think he would help the team by playing SS?
