Barking at Baker

Defensive Indifference already had enough of Dusty Baker. The Corey Patterson signing put him over the edge:

Why the hell would you want a guy who had 80 extra-base hits in the minors last season when you could just have a replacement level player get 600 plate appearances in a completely winnable division.

Let's hope Patterson is just a back up player.

IF Patterson makes the team (and make no mistake they need a real CF) then chances are HE won't be blocking Bruce, Bruce is more of a corner OF then a CF and in essence he's being blocked by Griffey.. was being blocked by Hamilton as well, but that's taken care of.

However the above is also a ML move, one that is not a 40 man roster move as of yet and considering the lack of CF depth the Reds have had and have it's hardly worth screaming and kicking.

Yet.

The division is winnable, but only for the Brewers and Cubs.

Hey, at least you know Patterson can be counted on to not clog up the bases. Seriously, he's just the kind of player that anti-sabermetric managers fall in love with: speedy players with good defense and no stick. They get fixated on what happens when such a player reaches base, and they ignore what happens the other 75% of the time.

If only Patterson could get an empty batting average up into the .280-290 range, he'd be looking at a Juan Pierre contract. I wouldn't be surprised if Dusty gives Corey a couple of months to prove (again) that he can't hit.

I didn't realize Dusty was the GM? However I agree - signing Patterson makes no sense.
