re: scott spiezio

that's scott "son of ed" spiezio.

ed spiezio was a left-handed power hitter who actually also played in the world series in 67 and 68 for the cards, going 1 for 1 in 68. after going to the padres in the expansion draft, he put up three good years of power numbers before retiring.

scott spiezio was and is a gifted athlete with all of his dad's power from the left-handed side and a talent for the timely hit in big games, as he proved twice in the world series for the angels and later for the cards (the team his dad played for).

the fact that Scott has no baseball memory of his father playing for the cards, no institutional pride to play well and properly for the card, no sense of loyalty to do well by the cards, is just another comment on what's wrong with this generation of baseball players.

imagine the odds of a son getting to the show and getting to play for the same team and hitting in the world series and gettng a hit for the same team as your dad. for many people, that would be a thrilling moment.

apparently for scott spiezio, that's all a haze.

the kid will go to rehab and remember what he has, and hopefull comeback to the game.

barry bonds sure remembers the kid.
