Wouldn't You Like to be a Vorpy Too?

Fire Joe Morgan revels in being called a VORPY by John Heyman.

It's a historic day. For years, man has waited for just the right term to use when insulting other men who love baseball numbers just a little too much. (What are they, gay for numbers? Probably.) And now, just like the wait for Shrek 3, that wait is ogre.

Jon Heyman has called us VORPies.

Now we can do that scene from Spartacus (and In and Out) in which we all stand up and declare, "I'm a VORPY!"

I am a vorpy

Heyman could be the dumbest columnist alive. FJM could, with justification, change to FJH.
But, I shouldn't be complaining (I'm not, really). He provides such ripe material for Junior and KT.

I guess we can't expect to be reading nearly as much from Ken Tremendous now -- he has his real job back *and* a baby!

Heyman could be the dumbest columnist alive.

Not as long as Bill Plaschke is alive and pummeling us with one sentence paragraphs, he isn't.

Plaschke and HatGuy are a pretty close call.

Why do Baseball "experts" insist on using a team's success to judge a player's value? I've never really understood that. Shouldn't a player's contributions rest solely in what he provided to the team (his stats) instead of insisting that he has control over what the other 24 guys do (the team's record)? This is the same argument that lead to the dumbest MVP vote I've ever seen: A Rod losing to Miguel Tejada in 2002.

Aww, come on, don't dismiss Heyman so casually. He provided irrefutable arguments for Rollins' MVP win: some guy with the Rockies thought Rollins should of have won, and . . . and . . . ummm, I'm not exactly sure what Heyman's reasoning was, now that I think about it.

And remember, this guy has a Hall of Fame vote, and he'll continue to vote for Jack Morris because of a) Game 7 of the 1991 World Series, b) He made the opening day start for his team a whole bunch of times, c) Game 7 of the 1991 World Series, d) Stat geeks like Blyleven, and stat geeks must always be wrong, and e) Game 7 of the 1991 World Series.

I have to say that this statment:

"To the stat guys, walking is more thrilling and much more valuable than actually winning the pennant."

is probably one of the greatest things ever written. It's a little long but wouldn't that be a great name for a blog?
