Not sure of all the hub bub. Coaches come and go. The biggest mistake Mattingly made was retiring just before the Yanks won a world series. He was a great player though. Wish there were more Mattingly's around these days.

"Today, after a stunning fall from grace, Donnie Baseball finds himself on the outskirts of the game."

Um, no. Donnie did not fall from grace. His soon to be ex-wife has a drinking problem, so he quit his job in order to take care of his family. How is that a "fall from grace"? Kim has fallen from grace, not Don.

Don Mattingly was my favorite player when I was a kid - loved going to County Stadium the one or two times the Yankees were in town each year. He was a great player to follow, one has to wonder what his career would look like if his back had not gone out, or if he didn't have to deal with an alcoholic spouse.
