How to Apologize

Why do players always do this?

Eric Gagne, identified as a user of human growth hormone in the Mitchell Report, apologized today to his new Milwaukee Brewers teammates for "a distraction that shouldn't be taking place."

Pettitte took his time apologizing for taking HGH, starting off with an apology for the embarrassment. Tell these people no one is embarrassed but them. No one is distracted but them. Apologize for what you did wrong.

I have to say, from what I saw on the news, I was much less impressed with this apology from Andy than I was with the one before. While I sympathize with the guy, and will always be a Pettitte fan, his initial apology seemed more appropriate and adequate. The positive reaction to Andy's apparent sincerity in his comments released soon after the Mitchell Report is indicative of the public's ability to accept an earnest apology for prior actions.

The players need to learn, especially at this point in the whole steroids ordeal, that deflection of blame or lack of directness is no way to endear oneself the general public.

and if the case vs. Clemens goes to court, Andy will be called to testify. Anything he says can and will be used against him...

I thought GagMe was apologizing because he sucked so bad for the Red Sox

"Anything he says can and will be used against him..."
Why wouldn't a witness in a civil suit have 5th amendment protection? Far as I can tell he needs to avoid lying, someone should have passed that tip to Roger the Needle.
