Deductibles
Peter Gammons writes in regard to the post on the Red Sox getting no insurance on Schilling:
One year contracts are 90 day deductables at 75% of the value of the contract, are very expensive deals...if the Red Sox did insure Schilling, they would have received somewhere around $2.2M back.

contract insurance was affordable until around the time that Albert Belle played with the orioles (the last insurance case to actually help a club).
companies like american specilaity underwriters are reluctant to enter into agreements unless the terms are fairly odious to the clubs.
