Even though I love having the Nationals in DC, it is a real shame that MLB left Montreal. It abandoned the really interesting dynamic of francophone baseball that probably will never return. Plus it's not as if that team could not have survived with the right ownership and support. They did fine in the 80's and always had great scouting.

Also Doucet points it out briefly, but isn't it interesting that Loria has now owned two teams that can't draw fans and can't get ballparks approved? It's like he's running a scorched earth policy with his teams, making sure he guts all interest in them so that baseball will never be able to survive there after he leaves.

Ben,

After the interview, it became clear that Loria had a hand in the mess that happened (obviously), but also that the French media had more than their fair share of blame to take for the team leaving Montreal.

The fact that this elite could, in a blink of an eye, decide that the coverage would diminish from the moment Selig announced the contraction, is a shame. Living here, I know first hand how these people react when confronted with adversity. To quit on their baseball team like they did....I just hope they learned a lesson, but it may be too late again when we finally learn that part of the story.

On a personal note, I went to school in the 1950's in Bellflower, CA, with a great guy named David Pinto. Are you any relation?
