Pedro is a Cock*******

I can't wait to see the PETA protests at Shea.

Update: They took down the cock fighting video.

I heard he once smoked pot in Amsterdam too! Kill him!! AMERICA RULES!! RA RA RA

Gimme a break. Different countries have different laws. Such is life. These aren't capital crimes.

...it's still animal cruelty. Just because something isn't explicitly illegal doesn't make it right; bullfighting is pretty messed up and it's all the rage in Spain and the like. Don't really care about cultural differences either; some traditions are just barbaric and need to end.

Your opinion does not make it so. What you see as cruel, others see as the rights of a property owner (the property being the animal).

JC - out of curiosity, do you think Michael Vick was wrong because what he did was illegal, or because it was cruel?

Posted by: Brick at February 7, 2008 01:57 PM

Brick:

Definitely because it was illegal. Factory farming is pretty cruel, but I don't see any mass protests, outrage, etc. In fact, there's plenty of support for the practice.

Odds are that the other josh ate factory meat in the past 48 hours, and didn't feel the least bit upset about it.

Vick was wrong because what he did was illegal. Do I personally think what he did was cruel? Absolutely. I wouldn't fight dogs and I wouldn't fight cocks. No way, no how. But I also don't think animals have any inherent rights. No more than we, as individuals, give them.

As a vegan (that is, someone who believes animals do have inherent rights), I'm appalled by your statement...but I do think you have a point. It's completely arbitrary to condemn Vick or Pedro for their actions while at the same time be silent about something like factory farming.

I did not know this until I saw this article, but rooster-fighting wasn't even illegal in all 50 US states until June of 2007. Amazing.
