Thoughts on the Tulowitzski Deal
Purple Row offers some thoughts on the new contract for Troy Tulowitzki. This had not occurred to me:
For Rockies fans, especially the die-hard cynics as well as the casual fair-weather types that weren't paying close attention until late last season, this move -along with Cook's deal- quiets fears that the team will become a farm to big-market clubs. It remains to be seen how much good comes of this aspect to the franchise's ticket base, but considering the state the fanbase was in last May, the role these deals have in the turnaround shouldn't be overlooked.
No one wants their team to turn into the Marlins, or what the Royals were a few years back. Oakland fans must be wondering if that's where they are headed as well.

Last I heard, the A's who showed that they wouldn't be a farm to other teams by doing a similar thing and signing Haren and Swisher to long-term deals, dealt both of them to other teams for a bundle of prospects.
There's nothing wrong with being a farm for other teams (perhaps in cycles) as long as you're having periods of success. It's often smarter to trade away a player a year before free agency rather than pay him the big bucks.
does anyone know of a site that rates the previous June amatures drafted by Major leagues teams then places them in Rookie leagues and a few of the winter and fall leagues and then rates them in January before spring training as most fantasy league draft these prospect early in Februry before they hold the free agent draft/auction
so little info seems to be avaiable www.BaseballAmerice.com charges for their info
and one has to wonder if price , vitters or whoever has moved up or down in projections to arrive in Major leagues soonest who has the most promise , etc

Rooting for a team with limited resources, I'd rather see guys heading into their thirties walk. Look at the 2 MVP's the A's let walk (Giambi and Tejada). They're overpaid right now.
