Cantu Guy

There's a rumor the Marlins will sign Jorge Cantu, and actually pay him more than the minimum. That's still probably too much for someone who doesn't get on base and whose power declined as he approached his prime.

I'm not ready to give up on Cantu just yet. Between him and McPherson, Sabean could have the corner infield spots locked up, young and able.

Yes Cantu had a terrible 2006 season which led to his demotion and later trade and release, but how much of that was in part to being DLed with a broken foot? It never fails that players who have foot injuries seem to see substantial slippage in statistics that season. Specifically, Cantu was hitting the ball quite well before he was injured.
Combine that, with the WBC, which seemed to negatively affect the season of everyone who participated in it. Look at the second half splits, it appears as though he just wore down - possibly from not having a proper spring training.

So then what is the excuse for 2007? I would say a combination of confidence and playing time.

Another thing to keep in mind, his 2006 ISO, while it showed a slippage in power, was still well above league average for 2B. He was ranked #7 in the majors.
