Philosphically, yes. Santana, however, is a known commodity, and one the Yankees can afford.
I think the Yanks will do better to keep their young pitching core in tact. This is one of those rare opportunities for a team to rebuild for the long term without having 2-3 years of losing between successful seasons. And right now, if I'm the Yankees...I'm thinking more about fielding a playoff team when the new stadium opens, using guys that could be around a few years. It just seems like the smart move.
Sure, Santana is a proven commodity...but...he could also reinjure himself and prove to be a problem in a different way *cough*Pavano*cough*
