Close to a Contract

Peter Abraham at The LoHud Yankees Blog reports that the A-Rod deal is all but done.

In what was a bad day for the Scott Boras Corporation, Alex Rodriguez went to the Yankees directly and apparently has all but finalized a 10-year, $275 million deal.

It took 32 years and nationwide scorn but it seems A-Rod is finally his own man. Good for him and good for the Yankees. His playoff performances aside, keeping A-Rod at third beats Mike Lowell or shipping out young prospects for Miguel Cabrera.

I can't wait to hear the behind the scenes saga of this signing.

Yeah, A-Rod is his own man for negotiating a a $275M deal.

What hard work.

Wasn't someone writing a book about A-Rod this year--maybe the guy that did the DiMaggio book a while back, Richard Ben Cramer? That should be interesting.

Was the Boras snub real, or a manufactured way for the Yankees to save face after telling the world they won't talk to A-Rod if he opted out?

The Yankees had a huge hole to fill if they let ARod walk. I'm surprised, given the original announcement that ARod wouldn't be back, but please.

Does anyone else get the idea that the subtext here is: "Boras wanted me to walk but when I got home to my wife, she threw a fit" ?? All the announcements are about 'talking with Cynthia' and 'my family is comfortable here' etc.

Yeah it all just adds to the never ending saga of Arod and the Yankees. It is only fitting that all this drama has to surround his dealings. If he wanted to stay in pinstripes so badly why the hell didn't he just stay there and not opt out in the first place? Certainly the Yankee fans would have appreciated him much more for doing it that way, instead of the way he manufactured this move. This is just like the World Baseball Classic. I am going to play for the American team....no wait I am going to play for the Dominican team...no wait I am going to think about it....no wait I am not going to play at all.

Hey Mark B, think the rest of us could be "comfortable here" with $275 freakin million dollars? Hell I could be comfortable just about anywhere with that kind of bank.

Oh GayRod thanks too for not signing the extension which cost NYY like another $20m
