Don't get cocky:

Speaking of dignity, I'm astonished at just how much my watching-the-game mentality has changed since 2004. My never ending angst and jittahs has been replaced by a cool certitude.

As long as the players don't get cocky, it doesn't matter if the fans get cocky.

Doesn't cocky = obnoxious? Why would you want to be seen that way? Everybody hates cocky fans.

"Mike:
Yeah, and of the teams that have taken Game 1 with 6 or more runs, all have gone on to win it all. "

In the 1996 World Series, the Braves won the first game 12-1. That's more than six runs. However, the outcome was not as rosey as mike makes it sound.

I'd agree Callahan. I'm as big a Red Sox as anyone and even find a lot of my fellow fans somewhat obnoxious.

I'm not out to be liked by fans of other teams. I've found over the course of the last year that playing the villain ain't nearly as bad as you would think. This series is OVA.

I'm a red sox fan as well, and I find several of my fellow fans obnoxious. My fellow sports fans, that is. I haven't particulary noticed Red Sox fans being markedly worse or better than the average fans.

Have to say, Derek, I am also starting to enjoy the role of the favorite. Sure, everybody else hates you when you win, but hey- you win!

In truth, I'd be very surpised if the Rockies don't take one or more likely two games in Denver. I don't see them winning anything in Fenway, however.

There's a difference between cocky and confident. Sox fans know that they're routing for the better team. Why be meek and nervous about the outcome? We know that it's not over yet. But we also know we have damn good chance of winning. It's a much bigger chance of winning than it is losing.

I'm not ready to pop open the champagne, but I'm not worried about how the rest will play out.

Hey, I'm having as much fun as possible. But that doesn't mean over-the-top obnoxious. (although some drunk Wankee fan might take it that way.)

I have chastised some fellow Sox fans for running scared at times this season. We have the best team in baseball, one that will remain competitive for years to come, and we should be proud and confident even in the face of defeat. No more whining!

In terms of this series, we just need to win one of the next two, and then it's over. Even if the Rockies beat Dice-K and Lester, we still have Beckett as a stopper in Game 5, which would give us two shots to close it out at Fenway.

My guess is the Sox in five. And a sweep would be great, but I'd still like to see what Beckett has in store. A 5-0 postseason? Has anyone done that since World War I?
