Red Sox Win
Like last night, the Red Sox put a lot of men on base. They collected six hits, seven walks, and a hit by pitch, almost doubling the number of runners Colorado put on base. Unlike last night, however, Boston didn't deliver the runs like last night. Two proved to be enough tonight, however.
The Rockies as a team walked just over three batter per nine innings. In these two games they've walked fifteen in sixteen innings. How much is the selectivity of the Red Sox or the wildness of the Rockies is hard to say.
Boston retains the home field advantage. We get to see how well Matsuzaka's pitches bend at high altitude in game three.
Laz Diaz had something to do about it, also. I'm not rooting for anyone this WS, in fact i wish they both could lose, but the red sox had ridiculous ball/strike calls in their favor all night tonight and the rox got screwed all night long. Laz should be replaced and never allowed to umpire another MLB game after tonight, imho.
MLB has GOT to implement a more fair strike zone tool. It's 5 years past the point at which someone could do it for the amount of money that is involved in a sport like this.
I understand that the Rockies are facing great post-season pitchers, in their home park....but, they're just not swinging like major leaguers. Or running the bases like major leaguers. I can't believe how awful the Backett & Schilling have made them look. Colorado has 3 or 4 guys who've driven in 90+ runs during the season, but right now they look like they should be playing small ball in 1916, to get any runs. They don't even look like they're thinking up there at the plate. It's annoying to see a team play sooooo badly in a World Series. It's similar to last years Tigers making so many errors in the field. The Rockies are doing it at the plate...they're swining at bad pitches and not being patient and when they do hit they don't look like they've even realized they could use the green monster to their benefit. It's sick. I'm very impressed with the Red Sox...I just can't believe that Boston is THIS good. They're reminding me of the late 90's Yanks right now.
Oh yeah, and the Umpires...I have to agree with SleepyCA. I've seen a lot of pitches called as K's that aren't and a lot of balls called as K's. Something does seem fishy about the umpiring behind the plate in both games. Still, the Rockies are swinging at the wrong pitches. Bad umpiring still doesn't excuse that.
