Indians Win!

Cleveland stomps the Red Sox 7-3, scoring all seven runs in one inning. It was there second seven run inning of the series, scoring that many in the eleventh inning of game 2. The Indians struck out twelve times, but when they put the ball in play, good things keep happening. They're one game away from going to the World Series for the first time in ten years. All they need is one win from one of their two aces.

My thoughts going into this series that the teams would split the Sabathia-Carmona games, but I thought the Red Sox could take two of the three from Westbrook/Byrd. Cleveland taking those two games, and that is likely to earn them a chance to play Colorado.

For the second game in a row Byrd beats a team that is known for working counts by taking away that weapon. He consistently got ahead in the count and made the hitter swing early, varying his windup to keep them off-balance. He lost his command in the sixth, but overall it still worked. Although it came against my team, it was impressive to watch.

Compare this to Matsuzaka, who can throw 130 pitches a game, but spends most of those in the first five innings because he insists on trying to miss the bat with every pitch, rather than let his fielders do the work behind him.

With pitch counts all the rage now, and more and more batters seeming to come to the plate looking for walks instead of hits, it baffles me why making the hitter put the ball in play early has to be such a revolutionary idea.
